Let fringe favourites Impromptu Shakespeare guide you into a world of tragedy, mistaken identity, beautiful verse, and silly innuendo. These workshops are for improvisers and actors who want to share in some of what we have learnt making up Shakespeare for a decade and a half.
When?
This workshop will be run regularly: the first one will be on Saturday 21st November in London, and further sessions will happen throughout 2027.
Who?
This workshop is open to everyone, and will be on an application basis. Anyone can apply, and we will inform you as soon as possible if you’ve been successful in gaining a place.
How much?
The standard price is £20 for our two-hour workshop, and you will also have the option to select the concession price of £15 (limited number available), or to opt for a pay-it-forward price of £30. If you opt to pay-it-forward, you will be helping us to provide concession places to others.
Who are we?
Over the past thirteen years, Impromptu Shakespeare have performed for audiences across the UK, and we're excited to share what we do with fellow performers.
What is the aim of these workshops?
Our aim in these workshops is to share our skills, habits, and practices with performers who may be interested in joining us in the future, and with folks who just want to come along and learn some new skills. These sessions are not an audition (although we will be keeping an eye out for potential future cast members) but an opportunity to sharpen your craft, stretch your imagination, and spend an afternoon with other people who share an interest in top-quality improvised theatre. Participants are welcome to attend a single session, or return regularly to build a skill base. Shakespeare experience is helpful but not essential; we're looking for curious, playful actors and improvisers who are ready to embrace language, story and joyful theatrical risk.
What will the workshop include?
Improvised Shakespeare is not a stuffy test of historical accuracy, but an opportunity for rich vivid language, strong characterisation, huge emotions, and bold, collaborative play. Skills which are useful for great improv as they are for performing scripted Shakespeare.
Sessions will include core skills like rhythm, imagery, and emotion, but also have a specific improv focus. Although not formally structured into a course, regular participants can expect to build a working knowledge of Shakespeare’s plays and how to improvise within them.
How do I apply?
You may apply using this form, and we will send you a booking link if you are successful. Places are limited to 15 participants, creating plenty of opportunity to play, experiment, and receive individual attention.
We have some other workshops coming up as well (including some free opportunities). If you would like to find out about those, click here.
